Continued from Previous Page here is a shot of how your Windows Explorer should look except for the inclusion of the Holden and Chev Folders.
In the left hand Folders column, click on the + symbol to the left of Kal3. Below Kal3 now you will see the folders installed with Kalmaker. Now click on Bin, and in the right window will be displayed the factory Holden calibrations as shown earlier in the Path List ( KAL3\BIN) in Kalmaker. ( you should be starting to get the picture of how the folders work)
Now click the Kal3 folder in the left column. This will open the Kal3 folder as shown in the right hand column.
To create the new folders click on File in the Menu Bar at top and select New -- Folder. A new folder will appear in the right window with the text highlighted in blue. Type over this with your "new" folder name and press Enter. In this case Holden. Repeat for Chev.
Now your Window should look the same as this…….Mission Complete. ( you may have to either close Explorer and reopen it, or select View from Menu bar then Refresh to arrange it in this order.)

Linking Laptop to ECM
Note There is nothing worse than your Laptop battery going flat half way through a calibration and losing the lot.
So first of all make sure you have a cigarette lighter charger/input for your Laptop and make sure the socket works
It's also worth buying an adaptor that connects direct to the car battery as it amazes me how many cig. lighters don't work.
To Link with Laptop, first of all, install your Real Time ECM in vehicle and connect the Serial Port cable, with the Security Dongle inserted into the Parallel ( printer ) Port of Laptop.
Turn on Laptop and open Kalmaker. At this stage turn on Ignition. Next open a calibration. To do this select Buffer 1 and then select Read.
The Path List will open. From the Path List select KAL3\BIN (factory calibrations).
( Note that these factory Calibrations are stored in what's called a Global Buffer which basically means they are a Master copy. When you open one of these you simply are making a copy of the Master and you can alter it as much as you want without effecting the Master Copy, and then if you choose to , you can save this altered version and rename it to suit ,e.g. JOHNSV8 )
Select a Calibration e.g. BAYA (VN Group A) and either double click or press OK. As Kalmaker Links to ECM a few little messages momentarily appear on screen. If Kalmaker does not Link a message appears. This usually happens either when you don't connect Serial Data cables (working Offline) or you forget to turn Ignition on. Simply reload Calibration if you forget to turn key on.
Note Do not disconnect Serial cable whilst operating in Real Time. Doing so "can" corrupt the SRAM on the RT Board in the ECM. This will also prevent Kalmaker from Linking. If this happens you will have to either reprogram SRAM on an Eprom burner or send back to us to be reprogrammed.

Gauge View Screen If you have successfully Linked, select Gauge and then select View. This will show you what's currently happening with your engine. This screen is a great tool for monitoring changes . This screen is also displayed here in "A look at Calibrating" page 2  Press Esc to go back to main menu.

List View Screen Next select List then select View and then select Diagnostic. This screen shows a detailed list of diagnostic readings. Compare this screen now to List -View -Engine All . These screens are very useful and are also used when Data Logging.
The Gauge View screen and the List View screens can be used to read all other foreign calibrations as in using a Tech 1 Scan Tool.
Familiarize yourself with these screens, you will be referring to them a lot.
